Diamond Special Mission

Diamond Special Mission

Aerial intelligence begins with the right platform - one built for purpose.
Diamond Aircraft has spent decades engineering exactly this kind of platform. The result is a special mission aircraft family that approaches the problem differently from the rest of the industry: not a military platform repurposed for civilian use, but a clean-sheet composite airframe designed from the outset to carry heavy, diverse sensor payloads efficiently, quietly and at a fraction of the operating cost of conventional alternatives.

Two Platforms. One Mission Family. Choose Yours.
Both Diamond MPP platforms - DA62 and DA42 - are certified to EASA standards, built from advanced composite materials with an unlimited structural lifetime and powered by heavy-fuel Austro Engines that ensure global operability without dependence on aviation gasoline. Each aircraft can carry multiple sensor types simultaneously, transmit data to the ground in real time via SATCOM or LOS datalink and remain airborne for up to 12 hours on a single sortie.

But DA62 and DA42 are not competitors - they are complements. The right platform depends on the scale of your operation, the sensors your mission requires and the budget you are working within. In many deployments, both aircraft operate together: one providing high-altitude, long-endurance command and intelligence, the other delivering persistent, cost-effective patrol or survey coverage at lower altitude.

Sectors of use

Both the DA62 MPP and DA42 MPP are deployed across a wide spectrum of government and agency missions:

✔ Law enforcement and covert surveillance
✔ Border control and territory monitoring
✔ Maritime and coastline patrol
✔ Search and rescue operations
✔ Disaster assessment and emergency coordination
✔ Force protection and perimeter surveillance
✔ Environmental monitoring and oil spill response
✔ Infrastructure inspection — pipelines, powerlines, roads
✔ Aerial mapping, photogrammetry and LiDAR survey
✔ Geophysical and mineral exploration
✔ Airport landing systems calibration (ILS / VOR / NDB)

What Makes the Platform Exceptional

 All-composite airframe. Carbon-fibre construction with no corrosion, no fatigue life limits and an unlimited structural lifespan - the aircraft you buy on day one is structurally identical to the one flying in year twenty;
 Heavy-fuel Austro Engines. Both platforms run on Jet-A1 fuel, available at every commercial and military airfield worldwide. No dependence on aviation gasoline, no logistical complications anywhere in the world;
 Modular sensor architecture. Certified hard points on the nose, belly, wing pylons and cabin accept a wide range of factory-approved sensor systems - EO/IR cameras, airborne radar, COMINT, LiDAR, large-format cameras, magnetometers and more. Sensor kits swap between sorties without permanent modification or recertification;
 Real-time data transmission. Both platforms support simultaneous Line of Sight and Beyond Line of Sight datalink systems, delivering live video, radar imagery and metadata to ground command stations while the aircraft remains on station;
 Low acoustic and thermal signature. On-top exhaust routing, optimised propeller configuration and matte finish reduce both noise and infrared signature - critical for sensitive operations where ground detection must be avoided;
 Outstanding endurance at minimal cost. Operating at about €100 per flight hour with sortie endurance of 8 to 12 hours, Diamond MPP platforms make sustained aerial presence economically achievable for agencies and governments of any size;
 EASA certified. Globally supported. Full type certification, factory-authorised maintenance, worldwide spare parts supply and structured crew training mean these aircraft are ready to operate - and stay operating - wherever the mission takes them.
